To Imagine

December 2020

To Imagine was created with a focus on the relationship between text and illustration. The poetry emphasizes descriptive writing and was made to be put into context with visual language. The rest of the books creation came in direct response to the language used in the poems, and was a challenge to myself to create a conversation between my writing, my traditional illustration styles, and my mixed media books.

The Nest

September 2020

The Nest is a reflection on the Summer of 2020, where I passed most of my days trying to find comfort in my home and the objects within it. This book acts as a curated record of my space and the objects that brought me joy in dark days, and invites the reader into my home in a time when visiting a friend was otherwise impossible.

In an honest reflection of my space and possessions, this book was created using precious objects from both my personal and art collections; pressed flowers and natural objects, fabrics and papers from other important projects, tags from items purchased to brighten my home, and other materials that were collected over the Summer of 2020.

The Gallows

June 2020

The Gallows started as a visual journal during quarantine, with pages created on the days where I was able to get out of bed or off the couch. The journal concluded as an extension of the Home Body project, and acts as a record of all the dark places the mind can wonder to when there is nothing else to think about.

Home Body

May 2020

The Home Body project began as an exploration of process through a series of paintings created in response to medium, with inspiration from surrealist painters and with content and imagery fueled by emotion. By the end of the first week, the project evolved to be an exploration of myself, my habits as a creator, and ultimately a reflection of my time in self- isolation during the COVID- 19 pandemic. Home Body has culminated into a softcover book, which explores the mental and physical hardships experienced during social distancing through interactive pages focusing on touch, sentiment, and the preciousness of objects.
